Half the battle is to find a product that suits your skin type. Here at Tropic our products are packed with 100% with pure plant derived ingredients and are completely natural, vegan, cruelty free AND suitable for all skin types.

We have produced an ABC guide to what products you should use for each step of the skin care process and why.  Try it out and send your skin to paradise...

 A.   Abolish Make Up and Dirt

Cleansing allows the skin to breathe by removing make up, dirt, bacteria and old surface skin cells. It’s an important part of the skin care routine and forms the first step.

Begin by washing your hands to remove excess dirt.

Next open your pores by soaking Tropic Skin Care Organic Bamboo Face Cloth in hot water and place over your face. This will begin the declogging process. Bamboo is also naturally antibacterial, helping to purify your skin.

Next apply Tropic Skin Care Smoothing Cleanser (£14.95 for 140ml, includes Bamboo Face Cloth). Place a small amount on your fingers and begin massaging into your face in an upward circular motion, this will clean and buff skin to reveal soft, hydrated and radiantly smooth skin, as well as promote blood circulation.

Next remove the cleanser using cold water on the Organic Bamboo Face Cloth to close the pores again.

 B.   Balance Skin Tone and PH

The next step to this regime is toning. Toner is important for the skin as it restores the skin to its natural PH balance which can be altered through the cleansing process. It also makes your skin more resistant to bacteria.

The final step is to moisturise. Moisturising hydrates the skin. It is important for all skin types, not just those with especially dry skin.

Here’s a question for you: Do you know all the ingredients used in your favourite skincare staple and what they actually do?

Our cornerstone is honesty; we want you to know what you are putting into your skin and body. Our skin is made up of several layers, and when products are applied these can penetrate the layers, even entering into the blood stream.

So surely you need to know what you are putting into your body - right?

We want to give you more of an idea why we only use natural ingredients and why it is so important for you and us.

There are certain ingredients here at Tropic Skincare that we will NEVER use. We’ve got a few examples for you, here comes our quick science lesson …

Mineral Oil - this is a bi-product from the distillation of petroleum and the main ingredient in petroleum jelly. It is an inexpensive ingredient that is present in many cosmetic products with its main quality helping products move easily across the skin. Some potential risks are that the oil coats the skin with a layer that stops the skin from ‘breathing’ efficiently. This stops the body from removing toxins that build up in the skin, which can lead to blocked pores, causing skin problems such as acne. It can also increase the drying out of skin, which then slows down the renewal of cells, leading to increased signs of ageing.

Propylene Glycol – this is also derived from petroleum and used in thousands of products from anti-freeze, electric cigarettes and worryingly skincare products. Companies use propylene glycol as a preservative to extend the shelf life of skincare products. Some potential risks can be skin sensitivity, skin irritation and nausea.

Parabens – these are inexpensive chemicals synthetically produced using alcohol. These, like propylene glycol, help to preserve products. There has been a great deal of speculation on the danger of using these in skincare products. Research has shown they may affect hormone levels in the body which have a link to cancer. They may also react with UVB rays from sun exposure to increase skin damage.

Artificial Fragrances – these are created using synthetic chemicals which try to replicate the natural fragrances of products we can find in nature. If a product is listed under the umbrella name of ‘parfum’ this could actually contain up to 700 different ingredients that you are not made aware of. Companies use these as they are a lot cheaper than sourcing the real thing but they can cause problems such as skin irritation.

Formaldehyde - this is a colourless gas or liquid with a very distinctive odour. It is used in many products including adhesives and embalming fluid. It is also, scarily, found in many cosmetic products used as another preservative. A lot of research has been conducted to look into the use of formaldehyde and found that it is a carcinogen with a link to cancer. It can also cause skin irritation and increase existing skin problems such as eczema.

Yikes! That is some scary stuff - but fear not here at Tropic Skincare we would never subject your skin to such nasties.
