Should I wear SPF every day?
Yes, wearing SPF daily is crucial for protecting your skin from harmful UV rays, which can cause premature ageing and increase the risk of skin cancer. UV rays can penetrate clouds and even glass, so it's important to apply SPF even on cloudy days or when indoors.
What's the difference between SPF numbers?
The SPF number indicates the level of protection against UVB rays. Higher numbers mean more protection, but the increase is marginal. SPF30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays, while SPF50 blocks 98%. Higher SPF numbers do not mean you can stay in the sun for longer periods without reapplication.
What does broad-spectrum mean?
Where most SPF focuses on protecting skin from UVB rays, broad-spectrum describes sunscreens that provide protection against both UVB (which cause burning and can contribute to skin cancer) and UVA rays (which cause skin-ageing). Do I need to wear sun protection if my makeup has SPF in it?
While makeup with SPF provides some protection, it's usually not enough on its own. The optimum amount of SPF for your face is around two fingers’ length worth, so always apply a facial sunscreen before your makeup, even if it has a high factor.
